Terms of Service
The Covenant Between Mortals
I. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account and accessing The Mortals server, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. This is a binding covenant between you and the administration of this realm.
The Mortals is a non-commercial, community-driven private server for World of Warcraft version 1.12.1 (Vanilla). We operate without profit motive and provide this service as-is, without warranties of any kind.
II. Hardcore Nature of Service
You acknowledge and accept that The Mortals operates under hardcore rules with permadeath mechanics:
- Each character begins with three Soul Stones (lives)
- Each death consumes one Soul Stone
- Upon losing all Soul Stones, the character becomes an Eternal Ghost (permadeath)
- Eternal Ghosts cannot be resurrected or restored by any means
- Character deletion is permanent and irreversible
Important: The administration will not restore characters lost due to permadeath, regardless of circumstances. This includes disconnections, lag, bugs, or player error. The hardcore nature of the server means every death is final.
III. Disconnect Ward
The server provides a Disconnect Ward system to protect characters from genuine disconnections:
- Intelligently activates upon genuine disconnection detection
- Safeguards your character when connection issues occur
- 24-hour cooldown between activations per character
- Advanced anti-abuse measures prevent system exploitation
- Attempts to abuse the Ward system will result in penalties
The administration reserves the right to deny Ward protection in cases of suspected abuse or manipulation of the system.
IV. Prohibited Conduct
The following activities are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account termination:
- Use of third-party software, bots, hacks, or unauthorized modifications
- Exploitation of bugs or glitches for personal gain
- Intentional abuse of game mechanics or systems
- Harassment, threats, or hate speech towards other players
- Real-money trading (RMT) of accounts, items, or services
- Account sharing or selling
- Impersonation of staff or other players
- Advertising other servers or services
V. Appeals System
If you believe your account has been penalized in error, you may submit an appeal through the Dashboard. The appeals process follows these principles:
- Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the penalty
- Each case is reviewed individually by the administration
- Decisions are final and not subject to further appeal
- False or misleading appeals may result in additional penalties
- Evidence of innocence must be provided by the appellant
Note: Permadeath is never subject to appeal. Character restoration requests will be automatically denied.
VI. Intellectual Property
World of Warcraft and all related assets are trademarks and copyrights of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. The Mortals is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Blizzard Entertainment.
All original content created for The Mortals (custom systems, branding, website) remains the property of the project contributors.
VII. Limitation of Liability
As a non-commercial service provided free of charge, The Mortals and its administration shall not be liable for:
- Loss of characters, items, or progress due to permadeath mechanics
- Server downtime, data loss, or technical issues
- Actions of other players including griefing or harassment
- Any damages arising from use of the service
This service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
VIII. Modifications to Terms
The administration reserves the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms. Significant changes will be announced through official channels.
